10th Chennai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2022 : Thank you all!

10th Chennai Film Festival 2022

We would like to thank the filmmakers, selection committee members, jury members, volunteers. co organisers, audience members and friends for the successful completion of 10th Chennai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2022.

We would like to also congratulate the winners of the competition for Indian short films and documentaries.

Shubradeep Chakravorthy Memorial Award for Best Indian Documentary goes to 'Bid for Bengal', directed by Dwaipayan Banerjee and Kasturi Basu.

Once Upon a Village, a documentary by Srishti Lakhera gets the Special Jury mention for Indian Documentaries.

Arunmozhi Memorial Award for Best Indian Short Fiction goest to 'Crescent' directed by Fazil Razak.

Around, a short fiction by Anandakrishnan KS gets the Special Jury Mention for Indian Short Fiction.

Chhaya, a short fiction by Utsav also gets the Special Jury Mention for Indian Short Fiction.

Dreaming about her dead son frequently before her grandson is about to work abroad, grandma and her grandson embark on a journey to find a psychic.

Story of a struggling middle-class private tutor, who faces an identity crisis that reveals the social reality to his son.

March 2020, Yerevan, capital of Armenia. 230 meters underground, in the Avan salt mine, men and women walk to breathe easier. Physical activities and medical consultations set the rhythm of the timeless world of this underground clinic, where lives intersect and stories are told.

In the summer of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Qin Huai, who will soon be 10 years old, accidentally learns that his good friend He Zhijie's father is seriously sick. He Zhijie’s family is poor and couldn’t afford the treatment fee. In order to help his friend, Qin Huai asks his parents for the money of selling their apartment as his birthday present.

An 8-year-old boy searching for fireworks on a Chinese New Year’s Eve, after the firework ban is introduced in this southern Chinese town.

A Mother-daughter relationship portrayed through the life of Dr.Lekshmi, who has a tough time managing her professional and personal life, especially as it becomes more challenging with the recent turn of events.


2) The Roka

What happens when a bride-to-be realizes that a ghost from her past has returned to be a part of her present?


3) A Conclusion

In a dilemma where one is faced with a choice between the past and the future, the past often has to make way for the future, despite the pain it causes. 


4) Manoeuvre

A young man tries to overcome his mediocre life, finds himself trapped in his own manoeuvre.


5) Ladybird

Dir : Rahul Kumar Singh; 17.42 min



This is the Story of a boy who wants a Ranger cycle but his mother instructs him to use his Sister's, lady cycle. This leads him to go through various insecurities.


6) Aalo / The Light

Dir : Soham Kundu; 20 min



BOY is assumed dead, leaving MOTHER and SISTER alone in the house to navigate through the grief of his unnatural disappearance/death. They slowly start descending into delirium. SISTER tries to emulate the behavioural traits of her dead brother (BOY) for eg, smoking like him where as MOTHER starts talking to herself or the LIGHT (becomes highly delusional).


7) The Tipping Point

Nisha (25), is preparing for some competitive exams, It's her 3rd attempt. Her results are declared. She is anxious. Anyhow she gathers the courage to face it. she finds that she fails again. Rather than facing failure, she opts for suicide.

1) Crescent

Anshiya, a young women lady who wants to continue her studies, is forced by her family and community to get married. With very little time in front of her, she needs to make a move immediately.


2) Chhoti Si Baat

Dir : Kabir Shah; 10.47 min



While everyone is caught up with the struggle to keep themselves safe from the lethal virus, a chance encounter between a boy and a girl brings out the true vulnerability of human beings.


3) Chhaya

Dir : Utsav; 15 min



It is a periodic film set in 1980 in India in which The story revolves around Rakesh, whose life takes a difficult turn of events after his second marriage. He is trapped between his second wife, his children and a well that was built on mortage.


4) Kulup

Dir : Sadnyesh Ramdas Ghuge; 13.48 min




The story of Kulup (The Lock) is based on a simple idea of how important closures are in life. You just can’t lock it in your past. Open it, accept it, share it, and you might just be able to live with it. 


5) Around

Dir : Anandakrishnan KS; 15 min



Pandemic times. Maya lives a fiercely independent, content life with her mother, earning a living from a job she loves. No one including her mother understands her obsession with the cranky, noisy fan in her room. For her, the noise opens up a doorway of sleep, to her past, her memory.


6) All that is Lost

For seven years , a nameless woman remembers her beloved in her daily chores. She mourns her loss in every way . Her life is nothing but a relic of the past . One day , she decides to start a new life from this vicious cycle of lamenting and melancholy .


7) The Case

Dir : Arun Varghese; 11.40 min



When Renu, a lawyer, questions another woman's decision to withdraw a court case, she comes to terms with her own dilemma that threatens to take her world apart.


8) The Unowned House

Dir : Kallol Mukherjee; 15 min



Gurmeet and her son Sukhvinder travel to her maternal house after years to sell it off for Gurmeet's cancer treatment. The house brings all her nostalgia back. The pain of the Sikh riots becomes fresh. 


9) Inside

Dir : Jinesh VS; 14.04 min





The movie is about A 25-year-old girl, Aaru explores the underlying thrusts, 

senses, and insinuations of her psyche during the lockdown period. 

She finds comfort in the presence of her friend.
